MASAHIRO WADA

Visual artist living and working in Japan. Masahiro Wada was in Melbourne as part of the 2010 Next Wave Festival, representing Tokyo-based ARI Art Center Ongoing. During his residency, Masahiro travelled around regional Victoria researching the Australian mythologies and histories that had captured his attention from afar. From the Central Victorian Goldrush to Ned Kelly and Picnic at Hanging Rock, Wada plotted a route through the changing Victorian landscape to explore points of connection and disconnection with his own Japanese culture. Relics collected on the trip formed the basis of a cave-like sculpture presented as part of the keynote Next Wave Cultural Exchange project Structural Integrity.
