RATTANA LAKHONSRI: WANT TO FLY

2002 UNESCO Aschberg Bursary Laureate Supported by Arts Victoria and UNESCO

Thai artist Rattana Lakhonsri was artist in residence from January through March as Gertrude’s 2002 UNESCO/Bursary laureate. Rattana Lakhonsri’s suspended sculptures woven from aluminium wire suggested an investment in cultural traditions and objects, as well as poetic interpretation and reverie. Drawn from childhood memories, and reflecting the passage of time and manual dexterity in their making, Lakhonsri’s sculptures engaged with traditions of knitting, crochet and weaving, as well as more public sculptural forms.
