STUDIO 12 | PAREKOHAI WHAKAMOE: TRANSFORMERS

Studio 12 Exhibition

Parekohai Whakamoe's installation, Transformers encompassed a symphony of gleaming white church organ pipes made from pvc pipes. Hung in clusters around the white-out windows, these icicle-like flutes had a transforming effect on the space, creating an atmosphere of anxiety. In the half light, the organic nature of these vertical shapes created a brooding presence suggesting a magical, supernatural realm, possibly also referring to spears found in Maori ritual and ceremony.
