STUDIO 12 | RENEE SO: FLOCK CULTURE

Studio 12 Exhibition

In Renée So’s richly associative practice, knitting is put to the service of painting, sculpture and installation. Invoking memories of domestic handicrafts, women’s work and conversations on the one hand, and Ben-Day dots and pixels from photographic and digital reproduction on the other, So's sculpture sits between play and representation, photographic reproduction and pixels of the digital screen. Flock Culture considered the phrase ‘black sheep of the family’ in relation to questions of belonging, difference and being an outsider. Renee So's installation of knitted sculpture comprised one hundred tiny white sheep, each hand-knitted by the artist, along with other symbolic objects, including a burning hearth or campfire.
