The first in an annual series of exhibitions developed by guest curators for Gertrude Contemporary, Final Fantasies delved into digital construction with a three-dimensional surround-sound take on the architecture and aesthetics of video games. The exhibition series brought together a collaborative team of visual artists and one sound artist to explore the operations of a new imagination rooted in the logic and aesthetics of digital games technology and screen life culture. The involvement of the Next Wave festival allowed for an ambitious project and catalogue with new work commissioned specifically for beyond the usual resources of the artists and gallery.
