ALEX GAWRONSKY: DECOY

Alex Gawronski’s installations incorporates found objects, sound and video to evoke complex ideas concerning time, memory and distance. Decoy featured a toy train which ran along the length of the gallery. A camera mounted on the end of the track recorded the train as it approached and then reversed in an endless cycle. This video footage was relayed to a monitor on the floor of the gallery, which could be viewed from the street. Gawronski’s project may be interpreted as a poetic reflection on time and cycles of obsolescence, and the position of theory as it relates to practice.
