Studio 12 

Commune was a photographic installation by then Gertrude studio artist David Rosetzky. Six figures, near-life size, were clustered together in the confined space of Studio 12. Connected by one continuous strand of pulsing light, the photographic portraits/figures formed a strange and evocative configuration in the darkened gallery environment.

Prior to this exhibition, David Rosetzky participated in a wide range of individual and curated exhibitions and projects in Australia and internationally, including Screen Life, Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid 2002, and Face Off, Hamburger Bahnoff, Berlin 2003. He has presented individual exhibitions at Kaliman Gallery, Sydney 2002; 1st Floor, Melbourne 2001, 2000 and 1994; Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne 2000; Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Dunedin 1997/8; and Testrip, Auckland 1997. Recent group exhibitions have included Staring in the Dark, Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney 2003, New 03, Australian Centre of Contemporary Art, Melbourne 2003; BitterSweet, Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney 2002; Happiness, Perth Institute for Contemporary Arts, Perth 2002. David is the founding Director of 1st Floor Artists and Writers’ Spaces and has been a recipient of an Australia Council, New Media Grant and Arts Victoria, Arts Development grant. He has been artist in residence at Dunedin Public art Gallery in 1997 and Glasgow School of Art in 1998/9. David Rosetzky is represented by Kaliman Gallery, Sydney.
