ALEXANDER KNOX: CHANNEL ME

Alexander Knox’s Channel Me employed a hybrid of optical, kinetic, sculptural and digital sound elements in order to produce psychological illusion and special effects. Akin to a 1970s supercomputer, Knox’s work embraced a breathtaking array of historical and contemporary technical, architectural, scientific and artistic sources: from trompe-l’oeil, dioramas and proto-cinematic devices to the architecture and aesthetics of op art, computer games, commercial malls and sex-club architecture. The resulting optical chamber, which cantilevered from the central column of the main gallery, simulated mystical, drug and illusory experiences with reference to contemporary religion, spectacle and entertainment.
