DAVID JOLLY

David Jolly has achieved much critical acclaim as a talented painter and articulated drawer since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts, 1992. Having established a well-crafted artistic technique painting on the reverse of glass, his works have a richness of colour, paired beautifully with the gloss seductiveness of the glass surface. His subject matter reflects times, places and events that that he has experienced personally.

He has held numerous solo exhibitions in Australia and abroad. Jolly was a recipient of a residency at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, where he held a studio from 1993-95, and was a founding member of Melbourne's "Stripp Gallery". Jolly's work has been curated into numerous important exhibitions, including: Moist, Australian watercolours, curated Anne Mc Donald, touring exhibition Australian National Gallery, Canberra, 2005; 2004 : Australian Culture Now, A Collaboration Between the National Gallery of Victoria and Australian Centre of the Moving Image, Melbourne, 2004; The Future in Every Direction: Joan Clemenger Endowment for Contemporary Australian Art, Ian Potter Centre: NGV:A, Melbourne, 2003.
