2002

Artists: Damp, Richard Giblett, Brent Grayburn, Jan Parker.
Guest Curator: Russell Storer

Supported By The Besen Family Foundation And Lyn Williams

Octopus 2 was the second in an annual series of exhibitions presenting the work of emerging and established artists and current tendencies in art practice locally and nationally. Established to promote opportunities for new and ambitious projects by contemporary Australian artists within a supported and critical public context, the Octopus series is presented as a flagship project in 200 Gertrude Street’s annual calendar, which encourages innovation, experimentation and excellence in contemporary art and curatorial practice. Octopus 2 featured the work of artists Richard Giblett, Brent Grayburn and Jan Parker and the collaborative artists’ group DAMP. Bringing together physical and connective practices characterised by emotional intensity and psychological insight, Russell Storer developed an exhibition which choreographed the compression of time and space, and psychodramatic exchange, synonymous with contemporary urban life.
