Remember Who You Are presented photographic and video work by seven Melbourne artists whose fascination lay with the minutiae of overlooked experiences. In the exhibition, Alison Weaver's video celebrated the wandering patterns and automatic-drawing of a road crew mending cracks in the road. Mark Wingrave focused on decorative elements within a domestic scale. Annalea Beattie's work found poetry in the arrangement of kitchen shelves and quotidian behaviour. Kenneth Pleban's photographs of an abandoned house examined the order and transitory nature of existence. Ken Arnold's sequences of the daily movements of people in suburban settings revealed a mesmeric mixture of pathos and gentle humour. Nicola Loder further developed these investigations with video footage of a man trapped in time at a kitchen table, whilst Peta Clancy's photographic studies of accumulations of dust revealed the passing of time as objects shifted in a room. By encouraging the viewer to pause and examine seemingly insignificant moments, Remember who you are sought to slow time in a society that allows us less and less time to reflect, contemplate and look closely.
