Recalling the spatial structures of computer-aided design and wire-frame drawing, Sandra Selig’s analogue installations have been replete with sensory intensity, despite their apparently humble materiality. Surface Tension for instance, encompassed kilometre-lengths of green fluorescent cotton thread, strung back and forth from wall to wall, wrapped and warped around the central column of the gallery. As a virtual, fluid architecture, Surface Tension filled the gallery with an overwhelming sense that spilled from the visual into the aural. At times invisible, at others times intensely optical, a buzzing static of colour and tension prevailed in a structure of impossible, synthetic beauty.
