KILMARTIN HOUSE MUSEUM

Kilmartin House Museum was an exhibition of new sculpture, built around ideas of work, time and memory.

Transposing the archaeological idea of ‘prehistory’ onto the brief span of subjective experience, in these new works Kilmartin conflated the forms of Neolithic stone structures with cast and carved versions of quotidian objects. Lost to language and memory, the function, meaning and significance of these objects can only be experienced in space and speculation.

Ash Kilmartin’s solo exhibitions include The Perpetual Planner, rm gallery, Auckland; STOP WORK, Y3K, Melbourne; RAIN: A one-day sculpture garden, 242 Young Street, Fitzroy, Melbourne; and Unforeseen Employment, George Fraser Gallery, Auckland. Selected group exhibitions include HOUSE WEAR, BWA Design Museum, Wroclaw, Poland and State of Design Festival, Melbourne; Impossible Objects II, Utopian Slumps, Melbourne; Another Yummy Fantasy II, TCB, Melbourne; To Say The Least, Newcall Gallery, Auckland; Stages of Production, TCB, Melbourne; Magazine, Gambia Castle, Auckland; Itinerant Press, SCAPE Biennial of Public Art, Christchurch; and Architecture for the Nation, ARTSPACE, Auckland.
