Calling on painting, sculptural installation, video and digital imaging Same as It Ever Was elaborated upon contemporary visual art’s relationship to architecture, design, film and science. Since the beginning of the modern era art has drawn on innovations in these disciplines as a means of forwarding its own development. The influence of scientific methods and theories are explored in Huang’s sculptural installation which employed obscure systems to create a taxonomy of memory and daily experience. Bertoli and Christensen each explore a phenomenology of light. Architecture and design are examined in the paintings of Firth-Smith, and digitaly enhanced architectural photographs exhibited by Blundell. Holcroft’s CD rom explored narrative form in relation to the filmic conversations of montage and the influence of contemporary media technology.
