Blair Trethowan’s exhibition — Products that Educate, Inspire And Delight — invited the audience to consider the value and interconnected relationships between art, graphic design, commercial and popular imagery. The form of Trethowan’s meticulous and beautifully rendered gouache paintings were informed by the shape and scale of skate-boards, which served as blanks or templates for content derived from a diverse and intimate array of art, architectural, advertising and sub cultural motifs. Displayed according to the conventions of commercial skate-board stores, Trethowan’s work sought to renew contact with passers-by, in the language of the street.
