DAMP, RICHARD GIBLETT, BRENT GRAYBURN AND JAN PARKER. CURATED BY RUSSELL STORER

OCTOPUS 2

Curated by Russell Storer

Octopus 2 was the second in an annual series of exhibitions which present the work of emerging and established artists and current tendencies in art practice locally and nationally. Established to promote opportunities for new and ambitious projects by contemporary Australian artists within a supported and critical public context, the Octopus series has been presented as a flagship project in 200 Gertrude Street’s annual calendar, which encourages innovation, experimentation and excellence in contemporary art and curatorial practice. Octopus 2 featured the work of artists Richard Giblett, Brent Grayburn and Jan Parker and the collaborative artists’ group DAMP. Bringing together physical and connective practices characterised by emotional intensity and psychological insight, curator Russell Storer developed an exhibition which choreographed the compression of time and space, and psychodramatic exchange, synonymous with contemporary urban life.
