STUDIO 12 | NADINE CHRISTENSEN: GLAREFOIL

Studio 12 Exhibition

Nadine Chistensen’s practice has made use of binary oppositions – such as figure/ground, illusion/materiality, decoration/utility – that have sustained the conceptual development of western modernist painting. Christensen’s paintings deliberately confuse these categories through their investigation of pattern, decoration and optical effects. Fluorescent light fittings take utilitarian objects and create patterned, formal arrangements. The glare of the florescent lights, as photographed by the artist, alludes to the ability of light to both enable and impair vision.
