Abstract, figurative and decorative elements are combined in the paintings of Paris based artists Ulla Frantzen and Heidi Wood. Their work employs elements used in furnishing and handicraft, with Frantzen applying quilting techniques and photographic transfers alongside Wood’s enigmatic abstract forms painted upon textured damask or upholstery fabric. Through the deployment of furnishing and handicraft, and the specific choice of materials, the artists locate their practice in the realm of the feminine, the domestic and the everyday, in contrast with the traditional notions of abstract painting as something timeless and transcendent. Dry Clean Only was subsequently presented at Galerie éof in Paris.
